Motorola’s Droid Migrates to Europe – Name is Milestone
The Milestone is confirmed by Motorola as an international version of the Droid. Being the first Android phone with a multi-touch feature, the Milestone sports an 854×480 touchscreen, a 5-megapixel camera and is priced at $596 with a discount and without a contract. It will have Wi-Fi and GPS and will switch to SM, EDGE or HSPA in case of basic calls, 2G and 3G. No support for US 3G will be offered but availability through O2 Germany at least is sure.

Multi-touch input is built-in for the web browser. Android 2.0 is designed to support multi-touch and is pre-loaded on both the Milestone and the Droid, but the Droid recognizes only single inputs. Multi-touch could be removed by Motorola and Google intentionally from the American version or, maybe, the Droid has been released too early and full implementation of this feature was not yet possible. According to unverified sources, Google might omit the technology from the US because of controversy with Apple or just to avoid competition directly. The test handset seems to omit Google Maps Navigation for a three-month time, but the reason remains uncertain. Directions can be provided by Google in Europe, but it’s a fact that the Street View support is limited.

November 9th could be the date of the official launch of the Milestone.
