More than 60 car companies from around the world rolled into Detroit for the North American Auto Show. At the head of the pack was Ford Motor Company, who unveiled new futuristic technology and designs for almost every type of driver.
The Ford Shelby GR-1 Concept - has quickly established itself as one of the most contemporary front-engine, two-seat fastback supercars. The running prototype features a 605-horsepower, 390-cubic-inch all-aluminum V-10 engine, a road-tested version of the Ford GT suspension and a stunning new polished-aluminum body.
The 2006 Ford Fusion - is the company's first fully digital car. It was completely designed, engineered and tested in a digital environment. Taking several cues from the popular Ford 427 Concept, it also features a bold three-bar grille and multi-element projector-beam headlamps.
The Ford Mustang Convertible - How do you top the all-new 2005 Mustang coupe? You drop the top. Set to reach showrooms this spring, it's the most solid, best-handling, most refined open air version yet of this American legend.
The limited-edition 2006 Ford Harley Davidson F-150 - redefines custom cool. It's available with 4x2 or all-wheel drive - the first for any 150. Features include a menacing black monotone with 22-inch polished aluminum wheels and a rich black leather interior with lots of chrome.
The Ford SYN Concept - is aimed at today's urban dwellers. It may be under five feet tall, but it's designed to stand up to life in the big cities. Taking its inspiration from bank vaults and armored cars, it takes security very seriously. When parked and placed in secure mode, it deploys protective shutters over the windshield and side glass.
The Ford Fairlane Concept - is a six-passenger, three-row vehicle that offers maximum space in a sleek design. It rides on an all-wheel drive version of the company's mid-size CD3 architecture, with fully independent front and rear suspensions. Features include a 3.0 liter, V-6 engine, three separately-designed interior zones, dual-deployment front airbags, energy-absorbing safety belts and load-limiting retractors.
