VW Passat R Line for U.K. Buyers

LONDON — Volkswagen has revised its Passat family in the U.K., offering a new midrange R Line on both the Passat sedan and wagon.

The Passat series now starts with the S and moves up to the R Line and then Highline, with the Passat R36 topping the range and the Passat BlueMotion offering the best fuel economy.

Priced from $26,100, the Passat R Line starts with the entry-level model and adds nearly $3,800 worth of equipment for an extra $920. Among the additional features are 17-inch alloy wheels, plus an R styling pack from VW Individual bundling airdams, side skirts, chrome louvers and grille. Extra hardware also includes cruise control, height adjustment and lumbar support for the front seats, a center armrest, a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel and a tire-pressure monitoring system.

Engine choices include 120-horsepower 1.4-liter and 157-hp 1.8-liter turbo gas units, as well as 109-hp and 138-hp 2.0-liter TDIs. All engines come with a standard six-speed manual gearbox, with a six-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic available as an extra-cost option on the top-of-the-line diesel.
